Schneider Electric recognized as a smart innovator in facility optimization
In the summer of 2017, independent research and consulting firm, Verdantix, released a report, “Smart Innovators: Facility Optimization Management,” where it makes the statement, “The convergence of information technologies (IT) and operational technologies (OT), coupled with the convergence of software for energy and asset management is acting as a catalyst for dismantling building operational silos and driving the optimization of facilities performance.” Verdantix views facility optimization management the evolution of the building energy management software market, and as such, recently released its annual 2018 report, the annual Green Quadrant report.
The Green Quadrant report provides a detailed comparison of 14 facility optimization software applications and provides guidance for senior executives and decision-makers in several verticals (commercial real estate, healthcare, hotels, banking, retail, etc.) to select a software supplier to assist in improving the performance of their firm´s facility operations, from the office building to the enterprise level.
We are honored and proud to be positioned in the upper-right quadrant of the Verdantix Green Quadrant Facility Optimization Software report as a leading supplier in facility optimization software.

Embracing the facility optimization road ahead
Being recognized as a leader among smart innovators who are in line with current and future market evolutions, strengthens our vision and further influences the road ahead. Facility optimization differs from building automation and building energy management (See Figure 1), and while it is an evolution (learn how in the Follow the Leader in Facility Optimization blog), it also is a revolution in facility management.

As Verdantix emphasizes, these differences break down facility management silos, forcing our customers – and our channel partners – to ask themselves questions that will optimize their building operations:
- Which software applications are available in the market today to help achieve my firm´s facility operations-related business objectives?
- Which facility optimization management software applications are best suited to my firm´s building portfolio?
- Which suppliers lead the market for facility optimization software?
- What criteria should I use to shortlist suppliers of facility optimization software?
The key differences, according to the report, are:
- an expansion of the focus from energy to enhanced asset performance
- a leverage of the IoT (Internet of Things) ecosystem
- better business cases
Additionally, the facility optimization drivers also influence our strategy in an increasingly-converging environment. The focus is, among other things, on IoT-enabled optimization of building software, overall value optimization (including asset optimization and building occupant comfort and wellbeing), predictive maintenance capabilities, and advanced integration, all effectively enabling an effective end to silos.
Recognition benefits expand to our EcoXpert channel partners
Being recognized by Verdantix for our capabilities and market momentum in facility optimization is an achievement of the innovation strategy driven by our IoT-enabled EcoStruxure architecture and platform – technology that our EcoXpert partners are certified in. This enables them to leverage the Verdantix recognition by associating themselves with a leader in the facility optimization industry, further differentiating themselves from their competition. Coupling this recognition with the deep expertise our EcoXpert partners bring to their respective industries is precisely what enables them to grow their business. As trained and certified partners of our solutions, our EcoXperts are an extension of Schneider Electric, which is a bragging right that can set them apart from the rest.
Additionally, this recognition is a confirmation that the road ahead is paved with IoT and the need for advanced data analytics, end-to-end value creation, integration, and a focus on all aspects of facility optimization. These are areas where the expertise of our EcoXpert partner network shines. However, the evolutions, as clearly explained in the Verdantix report, make a strong case to not just sharpen skills on the level of IoT and related technologies, but to benefit from gaining a broader skill set in facility optimization technology. The training curriculum to gain multiple EcoXpert certifications enables our partners to pioneer the smart innovator journey, alongside Schneider Electric, leveraging our solutions and our ecosystem approach.
Finally, the report stresses the importance of IoT ecosystems and of new partnerships. We will continue to build new partnerships and empower our existing EcoXpert partners to turn facility management evolutions into clear benefits.
Criteria to be a leader in facility optimization
Here are the strengths and differentiators, cited in the report, as the reasons Schneider Electric was positioned in the leader quadrant of the report:
- The highest scores for utility bill management and energy procurement and risk management capabilities.
- A strong ability to capture facility performance data, both from energy meters and from systems and devices which rank high on our roadmap such as sensors, HVAC and lighting systems, equipment and external sources such as weather data.
- High scores for energy monitoring and targeting capabilities, with a special mention of the ability to identify energy efficiency opportunities.
As we will continue to enhance these strengths, we also continue the innovation journey through our market-leading, IoT-enabled EcoStruxure architecture and platform. This offers our EcoXpert partner an increasingly smart and integrated hub, enabling them to deliver on the ever-changing requirements of their building owner and facility manager customers.
To be a leader in facility optimization, and to optimize business growth, our EcoXpert partner must be equipped to address these challenges: seamless connectivity and integration, a holistic optimization view, data-driven insights, ease of use, and a single environment to optimize all aspects of a building, including user experience and asset optimization.
