Written by guest blogger Matt Carrara – Schneider Electric, Vice President of Process Analyzers and Instrumentation

We’ve heard about six degrees of separation and the butterfly effect.  I didn’t know it then, but as a boy growing up outside of Boston regularly going to Red Sox games, I was being exposed to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s fundraising organization, The Jimmy Fund. For decades, owners and players have participated in making the Red Sox/Jimmy Fund partnership the longest and most successful relationship between a team and a charity in the history of professional sports.

See, I didn’t know I’d become the future Vice President of Process Analyzers and Instrumentation for Schneider Electric, a company just named one of Boston Business Journal’s 2019 Top Charitable Contributors in Massachusetts.  Nor could I have anticipated how my days adorned in red and white, baseball glove in hand, hopeful to catch a foul ball would ultimately be the connection to my passion for supporting childhood cancer research.  But it did, and here we are now.

The Jimmy Fund Walk

When I was asked to be the Executive Sponsor for Team Schneider Electric for the 2019 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, I was honored.  Like far too many of us, cancer isn’t six degrees of separation for me.  It’s affected family members, friends and colleagues.  These same colleagues from the Boston, Andover, West Kingston and Foxboro campuses have come together to support this common cause.  Through local office activities like raffles, lunch n’ learns and dunk tank fun, every little bit supports the overall $100K Team Schneider Electric goal.  More than twenty people have joined our team to walk on September 22nd – and everyone is welcome to join!

I invite you to grab a box of tissue and take a look at the brave faces of the children and adults fighting cancer.  Each has been named a “Hero” by the Jimmy Fund.  Schneider Electric’s Hero is Nixon, you’ll see that mile marker number 26 is for this brave seven-year-old whose mother is part of the Schneider Electric family.

If you’re not from Boston and you won’t be able to join the team – how can you show your support?  Donate to one of the team members!  This is completely voluntary and you can donate here.   Walk with us! Invite your family and friends to register here. You can even join us virtually!  We can all make a difference.
