Hospitals are critical buildings – we all know that. Losing power in this type of facility is extremely dangerous and can quickly become fatal to many. Hospital power control and efficiency is heavily relied on from the emergency room to the executive suite. It is essential to maintain high performance and patient satisfaction which can be done through EcoStruxure for Healthcare. EcoStruxure is Schneider Electric’s open, interoperable, IoT-enabled system architecture and platform that delivers enhanced value around safety, reliability, efficiency, sustainability, and connectivity for our customers. Designed to deliver improved safety, patients’ satisfaction, and operational efficiency, EcoStruxure for Healthcare is the IoT-enabled hospital solution architecture for digital hospitals.
From existing building to a fully connected, state-of-the-art IoT-enabled hospital
In Novokuznetsk, Siberia, Russian Federation, EcoStruxure for Healthcare made a huge difference to a building that was transformed into an IoT-enabled hospital, Grand Medica. The Grand Medica went from an existing building to a multi-profile medical center treating up to 160,000 patients per year. With ten operating rooms, a laboratory, and more, the facility needed a highly efficient and reliable solution to enable them to provide top quality care to perform procedures such as cardiovascular surgery, oncology, laparoscopic operations, among others. How did they do it? With the help of a Schneider Electric certified EcoXpert partner.
Partnering to provide high performance and patient care
Muli-badge certified EcoXpert, Comfort Laboratory, worked with Grand Medica for 20 months, from the design phase to implementation, to complete the buildings’ transformation into an efficient, IoT-enabled hospital. Certified in both building management systems and light and room control, Comfort Laboratory implemented Building Information Modeling (BIM) beginning at the design stage. BIM helped inform and streamline all aspects of the project providing objective information about capital construction costs as well as future operational costs.
Participating throughout all stages of the project life cycle, Comfort Laboratory successfully integrated the EcoStruxure for Healthcare solution into the new Grand Medica facility. This great success created many benefits for the IoT-enabled hospital.
The hospital staff sees the benefit of the new system in the way it improves the level of care. With its EcoStruxure for Healthcare solutions in place, Grand Medica realized:
- Complete engineering systems management
- Remote system access with real-time access control
- 20% reduction in electrical operating costs
- One-third reduction in thermal energy consumption
The life and health of patients is directly related to the quality of the hospital’s engineering systems. According to Grand Medica’s Chief Engineer, Andrey Sergeev, EcoStruxure allows Grand Medica to manage all its engineering and facility systems quickly, safely, and with complete, connected visibility. The platform’s focus helps oversee a long list of areas including patient safety and satisfaction, operational efficiency, and total facility security.
In addition to these tremendous benefits, the partnership has also given the Grand Medica the flexibility and scalability to grow as they intend to. This integration will effectively support future upgrades and modernization with the platform’s growth-ready capabilities. EcoStruxure for Healthcare helps hospitals thrive at every level.
